Sump Pump Installation in Utah Valley

A properly installed sump pump system is one of the most effective tools for keeping a basement dry during Utah Valley's wet seasons. Whether you're installing a new sump system for the first time or replacing an aging pump that's not keeping up, Utah Valley Waterproofing will size and install the right system for your home's specific drainage needs.

Do You Actually Need a Sump Pump?

Not every basement needs a sump pump, but many Utah Valley homes do — especially in areas where the water table rises seasonally or where clay soils hold groundwater close to the foundation for extended periods. If your basement floods after heavy rain, if you have an interior drain tile system that needs somewhere to discharge, or if your current pump is failing, installation or replacement is the right move.

Signs a sump pump is the right solution:

  • Basement flooding during or after heavy rain or snowmelt
  • An existing pit that fills quickly and overflows
  • Your current pump cycles constantly or makes grinding noises
  • No sump system in a basement that gets seasonal moisture
  • An older pump over 7-10 years old that's never been serviced
  • Power outages during storms that leave you without protection

What We Install

We install submersible and pedestal sump pumps, properly sized to the discharge volume your home needs. For homes in areas with storm-season power outages, we also install battery backup systems that continue running when the power goes out — often exactly when you need protection most.

Installation components:

  • Primary submersible pump — the workhorse of your system, sized to your pit and drainage volume
  • Sump pit/liner — properly sized and positioned to capture water efficiently
  • Check valve — prevents water from draining back into the pit after the pump shuts off
  • Discharge line — routes water away from the home to a safe exit point
  • Battery backup system — keeps the system running during power outages
  • Alarm float — alerts you if water reaches a level the pump hasn't cleared

Our Installation Process

  1. Site Assessment: We evaluate your basement layout, existing drainage, and the moisture sources that will feed the sump pit to determine the right pump capacity and pit location.
  2. Pit Excavation: We dig or resize the pit to the appropriate depth and diameter, install a proper liner, and prepare the discharge routing.
  3. Pump Installation: The pump is set in the pit with the float switch positioned correctly, the check valve installed, and the discharge line run to a safe exit location.
  4. Backup System: If applicable, the battery backup unit is installed and tested alongside the primary pump.
  5. Testing: We fill the pit with water to verify the pump activates at the right level and discharges properly before we leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most quality submersible pumps last 7 to 10 years with regular maintenance. If your pump is older than that and you've had any moisture events, it's worth evaluating a replacement before the next heavy rain season.
This is one of the most common failure scenarios — heavy rain causes flooding AND a power outage at the same time. A battery backup system solves this and is something we strongly recommend for most Utah Valley homes.
A sump pump manages water that collects in the pit. For water entering through wall cracks or the wall-floor joint, additional waterproofing measures like interior drain tile systems may be needed to direct water to the sump.
We route the discharge line to an appropriate exit point — typically toward a municipal storm drain connection, a dry well, or a downhill area of the yard, depending on your property.
